GRADUATE FINDS OPPORTUNITY

At the Florida Career College (FCC) graduation ceremony for the Class of 2020, Yliana was among the proud graduates celebrating not only her diploma, but also a rewarding new job. She was just hired at FCC Orlando as a Customer Service Coordinator.

“It’s been difficult sometimes because I don’t have my family out here,” Yliana said. “But at Florida Career College I found the type of support you’d get from family. That’s made all the difference. The opportunities and doors that have opened for us in Orlando make us feel really blessed.”

FEELING PART OF A TEAM

“I felt overwhelmed, shy, and unsure if this was the right school for me because I wasn’t sure if I would fit in. The first day of school was something I had never experienced before. I had transferred from a University where the professor never even bother to learn my name. I was just another body in a seat. However after my first day, my professor learned my first and last name, and asked for a small fact about me. I instantly felt a part of the team. I was welcomed and brought in together with my classmates. It’s a feeling I have never had at any other college I’ve attended. It’s what made me stay and continue to make FCC my college. The faculty is always waiting to help me with whatever I might encounter. I don’t have to wait for anything to be done, I ask once and then it’s done for me. I love the resources that are always available for me. Also, I completely adore how my professor just takes time out of her own day to help tutor her students and never complains about it. She strives every single day to make our class an amazing and welcoming environment for all of her students.”

FINDING THE RIGHT PATH

“What really inspired me to come to Florida Career College are the students, so many people have been through struggles and have been trying to find the right path. I have recently graduated high school and didn't have the stability to attend a University. I researched other options and chose Florida Career College as the best career path for my next step in life. I’ve had so many people tell me I wasn’t going to make it, even my own family, but with this step I will prove them all wrong!”

I'M STILL MOVING FORWARD

I’m feeling great, because I know I’m going to accomplish something no one expects me to accomplish. I’m finally going to make something out of my life. I’m doing ok despite all of the obstacles I’m facing each and every day. I'm still moving forward, still focused. I came from New York City where I was homeless and alone. After divorcing my kids’ mother, I went a while without seeing my kids… I had no job and nowhere to go… I work odd jobs here and there, always thinking about my kids… I attempted to return back to school, but with all I was going through, I could not focus on school… My father passed away, and I never got to see him because I was living on the streets of NYC. The day after he passed away, standing in front of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, I promised myself and my dad that I would do whatever it took to get off the streets and get my life together for my kids and that I would do something with my life to make him proud. A few weeks later, I called my mom and asked if I could come to Florida and stay with her while I go back to school… “Never give up” is what I tell myself every day. I will not quit. I shall graduate in March, and when I do, I have so many people to thank... I am 48 years old and at times I have to look back and remember the most difficult times in my life to motivate me to keep pressing, and it works for me. I encourage any student at FCC to not let anyone tell you that you can’t do it. Keep moving forward no matter how hard it seems.

SUCCESSFUL LIFE

“The part about the program I love is the hands-on learning aspect. The simple fact that I can get a first-hand real-life example and experience of what is to come in the rest of my journey. I also love that it’s more of a one on one approach with the class sizes and that I won't feel left out and drowned in with the wave of people like it was at Valencia. Growing up, life was very hard for me, I felt really alone and hurt because I never really had support from anyone. I practically raised myself. The only outlet I had was the church but I never had the chance to be a child or be my age. I had to work twice as hard for my meals and to put clothes on my back. I walked or scraped up change just to get to school every day. School is the most important thing to me. It is all that I have. The only thing that makes me not want to throw in the towel. The reason I came to FCC is that I want something better for myself, this is truly the greatest opportunity for me. I want thank you for accepting me into your school because honestly, I don't know where I would be right now. I am going to be someone in life and I will be successful. I will work hard to reach my goals this school year.“
