“I have been through a lot and it has made me mentally hardened to withstand anything. I have not let anything stop me from getting to school on time and keeping perfect attendance. In my personal life, there have been a lot of mishaps this month, I lost my job and had to find a new place to stay. It was also my first week of school which was the week before Halloween. I still showed up on time and kept a smile on my face and have not missed a day. My year of redemption is 2019, I have withstood a lot of trials through my life but have not seen something all the way through in years. Many people have counted me out and at times I even did it to myself. I have a newfound lease on life and I have people to disappoint; mainly the ones who have counted me out.”

BEING A BETTER PARENT
“When it comes to daily activities, I would say being a father. I love watching my boys grow up, learning to speak, and waking up with them waiting for me to open my eyes, just to smile and give me hugs. This may be deep but even though some people have the joy of having a mom or a dad, there are people like myself who grew up without either and I was never adopted. I grew up in the system and I would tell those kids that even though you feel like you were tossed in the trash and forgotten, it’s not over. You still have yourself and giving up is not an option. Overcome and over shine and never look back, remember what your parents did to you and do better for your kids. Be there for them to teach them what you learned and make sure they become better than you!”

PROUD AND SUCCESSFUL
"What makes me #FCCPROUD is feeling like family here. The staff are amazing, and even my fellow classmates. Going into college, you want to be comfortable and willing to get up and go into class ready and focused, and that’s exactly what inspires me. I get up every day ready for another amazing day at FCC. All I have to do is worry about going to class and learning. What makes it even better is everything is hands-on which I absolutely love about FCC. I would definitely recommend any of my friends and family members to come and join the FCC family. My ultimate career goal is to become a successful business woman, and own any business I want to, including knowing how to properly run it. By getting a better and a more hands-on experience from FCC, it really pushes me to understand the aspects of business.”

“When in my life did I feel lucky? I felt lucky the day I gave birth to my beautiful baby boy. The reason I felt so lucky that day is because I had lost a daughter in 2016 at just a few hours old. I felt like my son was the biggest miracle I could have ever had. I envision myself in 6 months getting ready to graduate from Florida Career College. In 12 months, I envision myself with a job in the medical assistant technician field. I also see myself in my own place with my family and going back to college to become a Registered Nurse. I will also be planning my baby boy’s first birthday.”

"I chose this program due to the fact that I love ductwork and it drives me to learn and gain a deeper understanding of what I love. My house burned down which led me to enroll sooner than expected but it has been a blessing ever since I began. The HVAC program saved my life. It has given me an opportunity to progress in life and new found dreams, it is a second chance. Not only for myself, but for my little brother and my child. FCC has given me confidence both physically and mentally. I walked 48 miles every week just to get to class during my first month at FCC. This week, I have a bus pass to get to and from school, all thanks to the staff and faculty here at the Jacksonville campus. They continue to motivate, encourage and slingshot students into excelling in life. I have nothing but praise and high regard for this campus and its faculty and students.”

“Take your time, study, and go to school daily. Plan out your meals for school, work, and lunch. Plan out family time and time for homework, just remember you can do it. Anything worth having is worth fighting for, and it will all be worth it in the end! I was going through a bad divorce after 20 years and had just lost my job. I was lost! It was just me and my son, and my son was acting out in school and at home because of my divorce. I didn't know what to do! But then, I said I need to go back to school and get my high school diploma. After doing over 15 years in the retail industry, it was time for a change. Thanks to FCC, I'm now a high school graduate. Plus, I graduate in September. I never thought I could do it if it weren’t for the teachers and classmates. I am forever grateful for the opportunity and the help from FCC and my teachers for helping me accomplish my goals this late in life and making me a better person!”
